Portraits by Joshua Reynolds
Portraits of Thomas Middleton Trollope and Isabella Thorold by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723 - 1792)
A pair of portraits painted by Reynolds in 1754 just before the marriage of Thomas to Isabella. Thomas Middleton Trollope was from Casewick House near Stamford and Isabella Thorold was from Syston near Grantham. The marriage joined these two Lincolnshire families.
Joshua Reynolds became the first President of the Royal Academy on its foundation in 1768. He was the leading portrait painter of his day and influential amongst his fellow artists. These portraits form part of a display highlighting works by Royal Academicians, in celebration of the Royal Academy's 250th anniversary in 2018.
