Collection of studio pottery
This small collection of studio pottery includes works by some of the most well-known potters of the 20th Century. Studio pottery refers to uniquely designed and crafted handmade pieces produced by a craftsperson or small group. Pieces are often designed to be beautiful rather than practical, but are usually based on functional forms.
Many studio potters use traditional methods and materials, and several of the pieces in this collection are stoneware with a slip decoration. There are pieces by Shoji Hamada and Bernard Leach, who are amongst the most influential masters of studio pottery; and pieces by Charles Vyse, Michael Cardew, Jane Hamlyn and Martin Brothers.
