The 1217 Battle of Sandwich
Join Dr Erik Grigg for an historical Lunchtime Lecture
The Battle of Sandwich was a naval battle fought between England and France on the 24th August 1217 - the final act of the First Baron's War. This talk will explore the aftermath of the Battle of Lincoln (the subject of our Lunchtime Lecture on 19th May 2017), leading up the decisive Battle of Sandwich on the south coast. The French forces at the battle were led by the charismatic and mysterious 'Eustace the Monk', and this talk will also explore some of the contemporary myths created about his supposed magical powers.
Dr Erik Grigg is Collections Access Officer at The Collection.
This talk is part of our ongoing Lunchtime Lectures series. It will be held in the auditorium at The Collection, starting at 12.30 and lasting for approximately 30 minutes.
Tickets cost £3 per person, available from the museum reception desk.
