The 2nd Battle of Lincoln of 1217 celebrates its 800th anniversary on 20th May 2017. This talk will explore the immense significance of the battle for the history of England, and how it fits into the wider story of civil war, the creation of Magna Carta, and a nation facing the very real possibility of becoming ruled by France. The Battle of Lincoln was a pivotal and dramatic point in the tale, and this lecture will explore its history, myth and legacy.
