Richard Devereux - Encounters Take Precedence
“A work of art can only be comprehended by looking at it and no description is a substitute for this”.
Gervase of Canterbury, c. 1141–1210
Visual art is rich in its ability to side-step the dystopia of intellectual noise. Its purpose is frequently lost in the brittle veneer of cerebral jousting. Unfettered by the distractions and interference of analytical self-gratification, it can remain pure and ineffable, fulfilling a very human need – that of stilling the mind. RD,2011
