View the Event GalleryWe have so many amazing things planned for Museums at Night at The Collection this year...come and join us!
Do you dare meet a real-life dinosaur at The Collection?
A ferocious T-Rex will be let loose as part of Museums at Night on Saturday the 16th of May at The Collection, come along and meet him at this free event!
Museums at Night is an international event where museums across the UK and Europe open their doors after hours.
The museum will be open until 8pm and is holding a dinosaur-themed night, with lots of additional activities. The highlight will be a life-like animatronic T-Rex that will be roaming the halls.
The T-Rex will be making two 30 minute appearances on the night, at 5.00pm and 6.30pm.
We'll also have other dinosaur-themed activities, including a dinosaur egg trail, story-time, crafts, face-painting, a film, and a fossil talk.
The Stokes Collection Cafe will be open throughout the evening and will be offering a prehistoric-themed menu.
Between 6-6.30pm there will be a unique auction, marking the end of a collaborative art project between two local art groups aged between 14-18 years old.
Usher Young Creative and University of Lincoln’s National Art and Design Saturday Club created concrete sheep that then toured the city, in search of public engagement and interaction.
They collected images and video from this experience, which appeared at The Collection and Usher Gallery alongside the sheep as part of a #Sheepselfie exhibition over Easter.
On the night, these sheep will be auctioned off, with all the money raised being put back into the groups.
Then at 7pm, the museum will also host Recapitulate, a performance by artist Joshua Lockwood, which explores and incorporates the ordinary behaviours of the audience.
Entrance to the museum is free, as are most of the activities (there is a £1 charge for crafts).
Tickets for story-time cost £4 and must be booked in advance, either in person or by calling 01522 550987. This includes a reading of Molly Idle's 'Tea Rex', an afternoon tea party, and a visit by the T-Rex. Story-time begins at 5.15pm in the Stokes Collection Café. [Please note: this event is now sold out]
