Lincolnshire Archaeology Day
The annual SLHA Lincolnshire Archaeology Conference is being held at The Collection this year, with the theme of 'art and archaeology'
The Society for Lincolnshire History and Archaeology's annual archaeology conference is being hosted by The Collection this year. The theme is 'art and archaeology' and the conference will include a variety of entertaining and informative lectures on a wide range of archaeological subjects. The current list of lectures and speakers includes:
Hidden beasts in Anglo Saxon Art, Dr Kevin Leahy
Encounters with the Exotic: Artistic Highlights from the Portable Antiquities Scheme, Adam Daubney
Migration-period Art in Lincolnshire, Dr Toby Martin
Resurrecting the Bull: A New Marble Statuette from Lincoln and its Reconstruction, Antony Lee
Samuel Lysons and the Depiction of Roman mosaics, Dr Sarah Scott
From Paganism to Islam: Textiles from Egypt in the Collection of The Whitworth, Dr Frances Pritchard
The East End of Lincoln Cathedral, Stuart Harrison
The final programme will be issued in early October.
The conference will begin at 9.30am and conclude at 4.30pm. Tickets include a buffet lunch and tea/coffee mid morning and afternoon, and cost £30 for members of the SLHA and £35 for non-members.
