BRAGGING RIGHTS - Billy Bragg 30th August
Is it possible to be both progressive and patriotic? Billy Bragg argues that from Magna Carta to Euro-scepticism, England is a nation that has been defined by dissent. Shaped by his 2006 book, 'The Progressive Patriot: A Search for Belonging', part autobiography, part polemic – Bragg considers his own family history and childhood, the influences of thinkers and artists such as George Orwell, Rudyard Kipling and The Clash, and reflects on how they have shaped his sense of Englishness. LAUNCH EVENT - 800 5th September
800 offers Lincolnshire people the opportunity to tell their 21st century stories; the challenges and the victories; the disappointments and the triumphs.
Born out of a series of consultation exercises over a year ago, 800 is about voice; the voice of the country's Poets Laureate - Carol Ann Duffy, UK Poet Laureate, Gillian Clarke, The National Poet of Wales and Imtiaz Dharker, Holder of the Queen's Award for Poetry - and that of Lincolnshire's residents. Both were invited to reflect upon Magna Carta, then and now. Click here to buy tickets.
POETS LAUREATE LINCOLNSHIRE LANDSCAPE READING 5th September
Carol Ann Duffy, UK Poet Laureate, Gillian Clarke, The National Poet of Wales and Imtiaz Dharker, Holder of the Queen's Award for Poetry were commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council to write a poetic response to Magna Carta.
