LAS pop up residency Szilvia Ponyiczki
As part of the 2024 Lincolnshire Artists’ Society exhibition at the Usher Gallery ten members are taking up residence in the gallery space on Saturdays throughout the run of the exhibition. The artists will show samples, display methods and techniques, talk to visitors about their own practice and their involvement with LAS during these pop up residencies.

This Saturday Szilvia Ponyiczki will be taking up residence in the Usher Gallery within the LAS exhibition. During this residency, Szilvia Ponyiczki will showcase the layered painting technique behind their Constellations series, which combines diverse cultural and historical symbols to explore universal human themes such as instinct, power, and spirituality. Szilvia will also share their art journal, filled with researched symbols, merged motifs, and developmental ideas that have influenced their work. Visitors will experience the transformation of a simple watercolour base into a complex, multi-layered dreamscape, where each shape holds its own meaning and history. The residency will offer a unique opportunity to gain both technical insights and a deeper understanding of the cultural and personal mythology that shapes Szilvia’s creative process.
Szilvia’s work captivates and inspires with its deep exploration of the therapeutic aspects of art. Fascinated by the interplay between the conscious and unconscious, and the personal and the universal, Szilvia intricately weaves dreams and ancient symbols into her creations. Her art illuminates the common threads that run through diverse cultures and histories, revealing the shared humanity that unites us all.
Whether crafting carpet-like dreamscapes or interpreting scenes from ancient mythology, Szilvia employs a vibrant colour palette and distinctive shapes and figures that are uniquely her own. These so-called biomorphic hieroglyphs serve as a visual language, inviting viewers to embark on their own journey of self-discovery and explore the timeless secrets of the human psyche.
