LAS pop up residency Philip Bowman

As part of the 2024 Lincolnshire Artists’ Society exhibition at the Usher Gallery ten members are taking up residence in the gallery space on Saturdays throughout the run of the exhibition. The artists will show samples, display methods and techniques, talk to visitors about their own practice and their involvement with LAS during these pop up residencies.

This Saturday Phil Bowman will be taking up residence in the Usher Gallery within the LAS exhibition. During his residency Phil Bowman will be telling the “Adventures of Tony Bartl” through the use of  storyboard. Visually showing the story of Tony Bartl from his birth in the German speaking boarder town in Czechoslovakia to his imprisonment in Germany. Learn how Phil Bowman visually communicates Tony Bartl’s journey to living in Lincoln and his career as an artist and teacher. 


Phil Bowman is a painter, tutor and owner of gallery at St Martins here in Lincoln. Phil also has an interest in Modern British art and the impact of artists who moved to England to escape persecution such as Tony Bartl.
