This Saturday David Phillips will be taking up residence in the Usher Gallery within the LAS exhibition. During his residency David will be displaying an A0 montage of all his portraits, of which there are approximately 113. He will also have 4 original portraits on display and some printed materials. Davids’s aim is to demonstrate how he is influenced by other artists. He will also be creating some portrait work and discussing this on the day.
David Phillips has been a member of the Lincolnshire artist society for 20 years. His work is mainly figurative, with elements of abstraction in some pieces. It is influenced by his life experiences and his interest in German expressionism, American artists such as Grant Wood and Edward Hopper, and British artist Stanley Spencer. Davids’s portraiture work is mainly within the mediums of oil paint and charcoal. He regularly receives commissions and have produced artwork for individuals and establishments from all over the UK, including illustrations for a book of short stories.
