In Focus… Roman Domestic Pottery

This small display looks at some of the uses for pottery around the Roman home

Pottery is the most commonly found type of evidence from the past.  Archaeological excavations on Roman sites will usually discover vast quantities of broken pottery, as it was a mass produced commodity and cheap to replace when broken.

This small display looks at pottery in the Roman home using complete pots from the museum's reserve archaeological collections, whether it was 'In the Kitchen', 'In the Dining Room', used for 'Lighting the Home' or even how domestic ceramics relate to 'Death and Burial'.
