‘Hide and Seek: looking for the children of prehistory’

Join Meredith Laing for an archaeological Lunchtime Lecture

Children are easily overlooked in archaeological research, and our understanding of the lives of children in the past is far from complete. The modern concept of childhood - a time to play, learn and explore the world around them - may have been a luxury not afforded to many children in the past, but equally we should not assume that children were routinely treated as disposable labour. This talk will explore the issues surrounding identifying children in the prehistoric archaeological record, and the roles that they may have played in craft and industry.

Meredith Laing is a PhD student at the University of Leicester, researching childhood in Bronze Age and Iron Age Britain.

This talk is part of our ongoing 'Lunchtime Lectures' series. It will be held in the auditorium at The Collection, starting at 12.30 and lasting for approximately 30 minutes.

Tickets cost £3 per person, available from the museum reception desk.
