The popular arts Festival is back

Highlights at The Collection curated as part of Frequency Festival include:
Agna Rita, Jo Thomas
Dates: 24th October onwards - plays at 12pm and 3pm
Venue: Soundwall, The Collection, Lincoln

Agna Rita is a bold, colourful expression of sound through frequency, rhythm and text from the Magna Carta, exploring a union of medieval modalities and digital contemporary artefacts. This piece, made specifically for the Soundwall, works with sculptural space, rhythmic matter and large expansive harmonic plains of sound which are composed to be present in the acoustic space of The Collection gallery.
Jo Thomas is a London-based composer with her own studio in Highbury. In 2012 she won the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica in Digital Music. She works with a combination of composed electro-acoustic music, live improvisation and sound installation. Her first two solo albums, Alpha (E82) Nature of Habit (E142) have been with the UK label Entr¹acte to critical acclaim.
The work is a Threshold Studios commission, generously supported by the Britten Pears Foundation and Arts Council England.

This is about you rating me based solely on my looks...
It is also about a recent worldwide trend of teenage girls posting videos on YouTube asking viewers to rate their looks. And what happened when I tried it myself.
In 2013, I lived online as three teenage alter-egos. It is about our obsessions, and pretensions, and teenage girls- but don't let that put you off. It is about you and me and the internet.
Louise Orwin is a live artist, researcher, writer and performer. Her work spans the live and the recorded with incarnations in performance, video and photography. She is preoccupied with liveness, awkwardness, femininity and masochism – but above all, she likes to have fun.

Pretty Ugly is an hour long, one-woman studio show which attempts to bring you into the world Louise lived in in 2013. It charts the ups and downs of the research, crunches some nasty statistics about YouTube users and cyberbullies, and struggles with its own moral and ethical stance. It asks how social media is changing you and me, and what this means for feminism today. There's some rollerskating, some lipsynching to Britney, some of her childhood toys and some dubious apologies. It is about our obsessions and pretensions, and teenage girls- but don’t let that put you off. It is about you, and me, and the internet.
Originally created by Orwin on the fiercely competitive Starting Blocks artist residency scheme led by Camden People’s Theatre, London. It premiered, headlining a festival of feminist performance at Camden People’s Theatre in October 2013.
