‘Eamon de Valera’s escape from Lincoln prison’
Join Dr Erik Grigg for a historical Lunchtime Lecture
Eamon de Valera (1882-1975) was an influential Irish statesman. A major figure in the 20th Century republican movement, he was a leader of the IRA and President of Ireland between 1959 and 1973.
This lecture will explore the fascinating, dramatic and occassionally comic story of de Valera's time in Lincoln prison in 1918 and 1919, and of his escape from the jail, alongside the political events that led to his incarceration and eventual rejection of the IRA's violent tactics.
Dr Erik Grigg is the Education Officer at The Collection.
This talk is part of our ongoing 'Lunchtime Lectures' series. It will be held in the auditorium at The Collection, starting at 12.30 and lasting for approximately 30 minutes.
Tickets cost £3 per person, available from the museum reception desk.
