Walter Benjamin was a famous German Jewish philosopher and cultural critic who escaped Nazi Persecution in Germany. Before the rise of the Nazi Party, Benjamin worked with the Frankfurt School and had various works published in print and magazines. By the time of his death in 1940, Benjamin had moved from Ibiza to France, then to Spain the hopes of escaping religious persecution. 

Dr Mark Rawlinson, Associate Professor of Art History at the University of Nottingham will discuss Walter Benjamin’s interest in detective fiction and the associated idea of the collector.
