A Fresh Perspective: Exploring Narrative

Discover and explore works from our collection in a whole new light! From January to March 2025.

This exhibition, running from January to March 2025 is a dedicated schools project, inviting secondary school students to respond to a selection of works exploring the theme of storytelling through the use of techniques such as narrative and
composition.

Schools have been invited to take part in the project and will complete two pre planned lessons to investigate the project’s artworks. The project will culminate in a visit to the gallery to see the works on display and create a collaborative work which will be hung in the adjoining gallery space. These collaborative workshops will include new techniques such as stencil screen printing and collage.

The art works on display, to be explored by schools, include
The Prodigal Daughter by John Maler Collier including the preparatory sketch,

The Poachers Daughter by Stuart Archibald James Wortley

Widows Mite by Robert Fowler.

These are accompanied by other works that relate to the techniques and theme investigated. The adjoining gallery is a dedicated activity and workshop space for schools’ responses to the works. When not in use by schools, visitors are welcome to take part in the activities provided and feedback their own thoughts on the theme and techniques explored. This section of the exhibition will continue to grow through the duration of the project.
