Lunchtime lectures - add a little culture to your lunchbreak

Here at The Collection we're always looking for ways to engage with new and existing audiences. That basically means providing a varied programme of events and exhibitions designed to keep art and history lovers coming back, but also trying to attract new visitors who have never been before, and might even think that museums and galleries aren't for them (which of course we'd disagree with!)

One new thing we're introducing is an ongoing series of free 'Lunchtime Lectures' - short, entertaining, illustrated talks held once a month, designed to add a little culture to your lunchtime.

The talks will be on a wide range of archaeological and historical subjects and will be aimed at a general audience - no prior specialist knowledge required. The talks and demonstrations will be delivered by museum curatorial staff and by external experts.

The first theme is 'Classical Gods and Mythology' and will explore some of the more famous stories from the Greek and Roman worlds. If you know the names but not the stories attached to them, then these are the talks for you. This series will also include a talk looking at the evidence of religious belief in Roman Lincolnshire.  The first talks are:

27 April 2012 - Origins of the Olympians

25th May 2012 - The Founding of Rome

29th June 2012 - Orpheus and the Underworld

20th July 2012 - Oedipus the King

24th August 2012 - The Labours of Hercules

28th September 2012 - The Gods of Roman Lincolnshire
