Expression of Interest

For this site-specific commission we are looking for an artist/designer whose practice fits well with or subverts the aesthetics of flags and regalia. The work needs to be bold and visually striking, making a visual statement that the building stands for creativity in the region. You do not need to have any previous experience working with flag designs.

Extra Information

This commission comes with an artist fee of £700 plus a stipend of £100 for a site visit.
We will cover the production values for six digitally printed flags.
On completion of work, the designs will become part of the permanent Collection of The Collection and Usher Gallery. The flag designs will be retained by the gallery for future reproduction and display, allowing us to build a collection of artist designed flags for the gallery.

Background information about The Usher

The Usher Gallery is Lincolnshire’s premier art gallery, officially opened in 1927 following a bequest to the City by Lincoln jeweller James Ward Usher. The Usher Gallery combines displays from its
permanent collections of fine arts, decorative arts and horology, enhanced by loans of acclaimed works from national collections, with a vibrant programme of temporary exhibitions.
The Usher Gallery joined together with the adjacent archaeological museum to form The Collection in 2005. The Collection is Lincolnshire’s museum for art and archaeology, housed in two buildings in the heart of historic Lincoln.
